中国相继颁布了《烟草专卖法》、《广告法》、《未成年人保护法》、《预防未成年人犯罪法》以及《公共场所卫生管理条例》；开展了无吸烟场所、无吸烟单位、无烟草广告城市的创建和认定工作；对烟草工业企业加大联合重组，严厉打击烟草非法贸易，禁止向未成年人出售香烟，在中华人民共和国领域内禁止使用自动售烟机；力争将2008 年北京奥运会办成无烟奥运会。
China has taken a series of laws on stage and carried out several activities to decrease the harm of tabacco over the country.For example, every city is taking measures to ban smoking in public and control the broadcast of tobacco ads.
The government would strengthen the effort of reorganizing the production and sales sectors in tobacco industry. They would also severely strike on illegal tobacco trades and forbid people to sell cigarettes to the minors.
Cigarette vending machines are also not allowed throughout the country.
The government is aiming at hosting a smokeless Olympic in beijing 2008.
